Description
At 618 m a.s.l., the municipality of Casima and hamlet of Castel San Pietro is a settlement on the right bank of the River Breggia. This picturesque village, nestled in the nature of the Muggio Valley, between Monte Generoso, Lake Lugano and Lake Como, affords a spectacular view of the valley. Cà Nani Small Boutique Hotel is therefore an excellent base for hiking and biking excursions to discover the surrounding area, well off the beaten track. Casima is the starting point for a wide variety of trails to suit all abilities. The various options allow hikers to enjoy the rarities present in this area’s alpine basin, including the nevère (ice pits), the roccoli (bird-catching towers) and the alpine pastures.
Behind us is Monte Generoso, with its summit at more than 1,700 m a.s.l. It offers countless trails, views of the Muggio Valley to the south and panoramic vistas of Lake Lugano and the Alps to the north. Because of its fantastic scenery, the Monte Generoso massif has always been popular with visitors and is known the world over. The reference point for the history and traditions of the Muggio Valley is the MEVM (Ethnographic Museum of the Muggio Valley) in Cabbio. The MEVM information centre is at Casa Cantoni, while the museum extends along various itineraries in the valley, linking the main elements of cultural heritage in the area: you will find villages, historical sites and panoramic viewpoints immersed in nature. The MEVM is aware of this heritage and is committed to promoting and preserving it.
Excursions of all kinds can also be undertaken throughout the Muggio Valley. In fact, several strategic starting points can be easily reached from Casima, either by PostBus or on foot.
